Domain Transfer Guide
A step-by-step walkthrough for transferring your new domains after purchase.
Overview
Once payment is confirmed, you’ll receive the domain name(s) included in your package via a standard registrar-to-registrar transfer. The source code and assets are delivered immediately. Below is exactly what to expect.
The Transfer Process
Seven steps from purchase to launch.
Confirm Your Registrar Account
Before the transfer begins, make sure you have an active account with a domain registrar that accepts incoming transfers. If you don’t already have an account, create one before starting the transfer. Popular options include:
- Namecheap — Budget-friendly, straightforward transfer process
- GoDaddy — Widely used, extensive support resources
- Cloudflare Registrar — At-cost pricing, no markup
- Google Domains / Squarespace — Clean interface, solid DNS management
- Porkbun — Competitive pricing, modern dashboard
Receive Your Auth Codes
After purchase, we will:
- Unlock the domain(s) at the current registrar
- Disable domain privacy/WHOIS protection temporarily
- Send you the EPP authorization codes (also called transfer codes or auth codes) for each domain
Auth codes will only be sent to the verified email address used during purchase for security.
Initiate the Transfer
At your registrar, look for “Transfer a Domain” or “Transfer In”. Enter each domain name exactly as provided and paste the corresponding auth code when prompted.
Most registrars require you to pay for one year of renewal at transfer time.
Approve the Transfer
You (and sometimes we) will receive a confirmation email from the registrar. Approve the transfer as soon as possible—approving the email immediately can reduce the transfer time to a few hours instead of several days. If not explicitly approved, most transfers auto-complete after 5 days.
Transfer Completes
Domain transfers typically complete within 5–7 business days, though approving promptly can shorten this significantly. Once complete, the domains will appear in your registrar dashboard. DNS propagation (pointing the domains to your hosting) can take an additional 24–48 hours.
Configure DNS & Launch Your Site
Once the domains are in your account:
- Point the A record or CNAME to your hosting provider
- Upload and deploy the source code to your hosting environment
- Set up SSL/TLS certificates (most hosts offer free Let’s Encrypt certs)
- Re-enable WHOIS privacy if desired

Transfer Tips
60-Day Rule
Domains must be 60+ days old to transfer between registrars (ICANN policy). All domains in our packages meet this requirement.
Protect Your Auth Codes
Treat authorization codes like passwords. Never share them publicly or in unsecured channels.
Check Your Spam Folder
Transfer approval emails sometimes trigger spam filters. Check your junk folder if you don’t see them within a few hours.
Approve Promptly
Approve the transfer email as soon as you receive it. Unapproved transfers can time out and need to be restarted.
